Community Involvement
There is an active school council, made up from a pupil-elected delegate from each class, which holds regular lunchtime meetings to discuss issues important to pupils. These include issues in the school – playground facilities, lunchtime, toilets, uniforms, etc. – and the children’s role in the wider world.
The school council adopts a charity each year, and organises sponsored activities in support of its chosen charity. For 2005/06 the charity chosen was the Macmillan Trust; for 2006/07 all proceeds will go to Lepra.
At Christmas the children sing for the elderly at the local hospital and in church, and join in activities at fairs in the local area. They also collect food at Harvest Festival to distribute among the needy in the community.
Individual classes visit the local church, investigate the local high street as part of their geography studies and use local parks and sports centres for events throughout the year.
